This year, the International Symposium of Ceramics in Bechyně will be held for the 27th time. making it the world’s oldest, regularly organized event of its kind; the symposium’s history began in 1966 and this year’s 50th anniversary of its existence will be commemorated in the form of a new website. In the past, the symposia were held irregularly; currently, it takes place every two years. In an inspiring milieu, Bechyně hosts a changing group of artists, who present their sculptures and clay objects rendered in the form of fine or applied art, or as designs. From its inception, the symposium has been co-organized by the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague (UPM), which acquires some of the resulting works made at the symposia for its collections.
